WOMEN'S SOCCER LOSES DOUBLE OT BATTLE WITH AKRON

AKRON, OHIO- Temple played the University of Akron to a double-overtime scoreless tie but could not hold on as the Zips defeated the Owls, 5-4, in penalty kicks to claim third place on Saturday in the consolation match of the Westfield Insurance Cup.
It was Akron's Jessica Ewing who converted the fifth attempt and put the Zips on top in the shootout session.
Temple and Akron each had one scoring opportunity in the first overtime period but could not convert. The Owls took three total shots, one of which was on goal.
TU called on the services of two goalkeepers, with Tiffany Kasunich protecting the net during the first period of regulation and Liz Tarasevich getting the call for the second half and the duration of overtime. Tarasevich earned three saves, while Kasunich had one.
Cori Gallagher and Katrina Lynch were selected to the All-Tournament Team.
