WOMEN'S SOCCER DROPS GAME TO PITT, 4-1
8.27.06 | Women's Soccer
PHILADELPHIA- Natalie Mell got Temple on the board first but Pittsburgh responded with four unanswered goals to post a 4-1 victory over Temple on Sunday afternoon in the final game of the Owl Eyes Classic. Temple falls to 1-1 on the season, while the Panthers remain undefeated at 2-0.
Pitt seemed to dominate a sluggish looking Temple team throughout the game, taking 14 shots to the Owls' eight, but were not able to convert until the 28th minute. 2005's leading scorer Charisma Wright ended the game's stalemate when she dribbled down the field and crossed the ball to Mell who blasted in a goal from about 20 yards out in the 25th minute. This proved to be the lone bright spot for the Owls, however, as Pitt answered with three straight goals to end the half. Katie Surma tied the score at one when she took a pass from Katie Caslin at 28:16. Ashley Habbel made it 2-1 just three minutes later and Erica Wright closed out the half with an unassisted goal with just two minutes remaining in the period.
Corina Sebesta found the back of the net just five minutes into the second stanza to make it 4-1 and squash all of Temple's hopes of a comeback.
Goaltenders Liz Tarasevich and Allison Finch each earned four saves for their respective schools.
Cori Gallagher, Natalie Mell and Jenna Rankin were named to the Owl Eyes Classic All-Tournament Team.
The Owls return to action on September 1 when they host Maine at 4 p.m.
In the day's first match Bucknell defeated Central Arkansas by a score of 7-0.
