AMBLER, PA- Maine scored two first half goals to take an early lead and never looked back as they defeated the Temple Owls, 3-0, on a rainy and cold Friday afternoon. The Owls fall to 1-2-0, while the Blackbears improve to 2-0-1.
The Blackbears came out firing from the first whistle and were able to keep the ball deep into Temple territory for most of the first half. Jordan Pekrul found Christine LaBelle at 18:19 for Maine's first tally, a slow shot that rolled past starting TU goalie Liz Tarasevich. Temple seemed to try and create some scoring opportunities in the latter part of the stanza but just couldn't seem to get clean shots off. Natalie Berry made it 2-0 Maine just 30 seconds before halftime after collecting the rebound off of Tarasevich and firing it into the net.
Temple came out in the second half with a renewed aggressiveness, controlling the tempo and pushing up the field, but just couldn't seem to turn any of its shots into goals. Marie-Andree Canuel shut the door on a Temple comeback after netting the Blackbears' third goal at the 72 minute mark.
Tarasevich shared time in goal with Tiffany Kasunich, with Tarasevich earning three saves and Kasunich notching one. Maine's Jasmine Phillips garnered four stops.
The Owls travel to UMBC for their next game on Friday, September 8 at 4 p.m.
