PHILADELPHIA -
Jill Beauchamp and Chrissy Reina each netted goals to lead the Manhattan Jaspers over the Temple women's soccer team and keep their winning streak alive on Friday night. The Owls fall to 1-5, while the Jaspers earn their sixth consecutive victory.
The Owls showed signs of life early and pushed the ball up the field for some early shots. It was a defensive play, however, that earned Temple its first tally in six games. Manhattan sent the ball into the box but it was headed away...right to the foot of Kersha Walker. Walker dribbled up the field on a breakaway and crossed it to Kelly Lare who pushed it past Jasper goalie Alicia DeFino in the 27th minute. The Jaspers, desperate to save their five-game winning streak scored the equalizer in the 40th minute when Amanda Fischer sent a corner kick into Jill Beauchamp who put it past TU's Tiffany Kasunich to make it 1-1 going into the half.
Manhattan came out firing in the second half, beating down the Owl defense with four quick shots. The fifth time seemed to be the charm however as Amanda Fischer sent a corner kick into the box. Courtney McMahon headed it to Chrissy Reina who put the Jaspers up 2-1 in the 50th minute. With the momentum in its favor, Manhattan viciously began to attack, breaking down the Temple defense with every minute. A corner kick in the 34 minute nearly gave the Jaspers their third goal but TU was able to clear it off the line to keep it a one goal game. Manhattan began to get very physical in the waning minutes of the half as the Jaspers were issued two yellow cards and committed 11 second half fouls. Temple continued to push but could not seem to get a shot off and the Jaspers preserved their winning streak with the 2-1 victory.
Kasunich finished with four saves for Temple, while DeFino had three.
Temple next travels to Wagner for a game on Sunday at 1 p.m.
