PHILADELPHIA - In preparation for the 2006 Temple Football home opener, Temple Athletics and Bassetts Ice Cream have teamed up to offer fans a special flavor called "Owl Golden," a mixture of Bing cherries and Bassetts famous rich French vanilla ice cream. The ice cream will include a special topping, a cookie replica of the well-known Temple "T," on each serving. The cookie "T" will be decorated with red sugar. The cherry and vanilla flavor is a nod to Temple University's famous two-hue scheme, cherry and white, while the ice cream name is in honor of new head football coach Al Golden. The Temple Owls football team will take on nationally ranked Louisville on Saturday, September 9 at Noon at Lincoln Financial Field.
Bassetts and Temple, with the help of the Temple Marching Band, mascot Hooter, cheerleading squad and members of the Diamond Gems dance team, will unveil the special flavor as part of a pep rally on Friday, September 8 at Reading Terminal Market at 12:30 p.m. Any person who stops by the Bassetts Ice Cream location in the Reading Terminal Market and is sporting Temple attire (hat, t-shirt, etc.) or has Temple ID, will receive a special discount on the Temple themed flavor and all other flavors/items. Patrons will also have the chance to receive coupons for discounted tickets to the Temple-Louisville game.
