Kurashima, Clermont Advance Cornell Winter Invite Finals

ITHACA, NY - The Temple University women's tennis team started off its spring season in fine fashion at the Cornell Winter Invite. The Owls posted 11 wins in 12 matches on Friday, the first day of competition, and senior Yuri Kurashima advancing to the finals in flight A singles and doubles with partner Christine Clermont.
Kurashima defeated her teammate, Dina Senkina, 6-4, 2-6 (10-6), in an intense semifinal match Saturday. She then teamed with Clermont to post an 8-2 semifinal doubles victory. Radka Ferancova dropped a tightly-contested flight A singles match, 3-6, 6-4 (10-5) to Cornell' Kasia Preneta. Clermont lost her flight B quarterfinal match Saturday while Anastasiia Rukavyshnykova advanced to the semifinals of flight C before falling in tie-breaker, 7-6, 4-6 (10-3) to Susan Sullivan of Cornell. Sharanya Pattabi and Felicia Frazier lost in straight sets in the quarterfinal round of flight C.
On Friday, Kurashima, Ferancova and Senkina all won their flight A singles matches with Kurashima coming from behind to defeat Binghamton's Zynep Altinay in a tie-breaker, 4-6, 6-3 (10-7). Clermont won her flight B match while Frazier, Pattabi and Rukavyshnykova won at flight C singles.
In doubles, Senkina/Ferancova and Pattabi/Rukavyshnykova won two doubles matches at flights A and B, respectively.
The flight A singles and doubles finals will be contested Sunday.
