PHILADELPHIA - A vote casted by the Atlantic 10 head coaches predicts the Temple softball team to finish fifth in the conference's standings in 2007, announced Tuesday. After a 12-6 conference record in 2006, the Cherry and White finished fifth and one game shy of the postseason tournament.

Massachusetts, after capturing the program's 18th conference crown last season, have been voted to finish first while Fordham, Charlotte and St. Bonaventure complete the top four.

Temple second-year head coach Casey Dickson, with a new coaching staff in assistants Ashley Moore and Lauren Nicholson, returns eight players from a team that finished 22-23 overall a year ago. Sophomore pitcher Katie Burdeaux takes to the mound for the Cherry and White after posting a 10-8 record and fanning 70 batters in 133.0 innings of work. Seniors Makeala Compton (.289, 6 HR, 17 RBI), Adrienne Repsher (.302, 3 HR, 16 RBI) and Jessica Rohn (.283, 2 HR, 17 RBI) return to an offense that batted .282 as a team last season.

The Owls open their season on February 16 at the Worth Wildcat Tournament in Tucson, Ariz. with a double-header against Middle Tennessee State and Arizona. Following early season tournaments at Oklahoma and Stetson, the Cherry and White begin their Atlantic 10 slate against Charlotte at the Ambler Sports Complex on March 25.
