Al Golden, Temple head coach
That was kind of a bittersweet win for you guys:
There's nothing bitter about it. I'm just pulling for Adam, and I don't put the two together like you're putting them together. I think it's a tremendous win for our program, and I thought the kids fought hard. Adam's tough; he'll be back. We're pulling for him. He put so much into it. He'll have an opportunity to come back, I'm sure; it's just a shame for him.
On the defense:
Defense is playing much better. We have to finish the job little a bit better. They're just very resilient right now. They're starting to become tough. It's obvious that they have unity, and I like I said to them, you can see the off-season program starting to take off, because we're in good shape. When they get down in the red zone, they get tougher. That part of it's been good. We had a couple of chances. We had some interceptions that I thought we could have gotten, we missed a fumble recovery I thought we could have gotten. The defense is playing good. I thought the coaching that the defensive staff put together was tremendous, and I thought that Mark D'Onofrio called a brilliant game, to be honest with you.
On Vaughn Charlton replacing Adam DiMichele:
It probably had a little bit to do with him, but he's the kind of guy, he's patting me on the butt and saying, `I got it coach.' He's got confidence. As I've sad to you all along, he's a good football player; Vaughn is a good football player. It just so happened that he wasn't the starter at the beginning (of the season). He's the starter now. He's got an opportunity to lead us and continue this winning streak, and hopefully we will do that.
We are very fortunate in our quarterback situation. In their intellect and their ability to run the offense, so we are very blessed in terms of our quarterback situation.
On the three-game winning streak in the MAC:
Obviously, I know, we're climbing, We're in control of our own destiny. I know we're climbing, and it's a good week for us to have a week off to get our academics together and get healed up a little bit and make a good stretch run.
Talking about Miami entering the game undefeated in the conference:
That's what you guys talk about. We just talk about how to stop them and the keys to victory for our guys, and I thought we did that. Our guys played hard, and I thought that they were ready to play they prepared well and there's nothing that can diminish that we played well. We have to correct some things: penalties at the end onside kick, we fumbled the ball, kill the clock offense. In terms of them preparing and understanding the keys to victory and being in shape, I'm very pleased.
On DE Junior Galette:
It was good. They kept sliding the protecting away putting him on the back, and he made him pay for it a couple of times. The biggest challenge for Junior is to become a complete football player. Junior is an excellent athlete. He has a lot of talent, and he keeps working hard.
The third win in a row get into the guys' head?
We're 3-5. I don't know if any of these guys were born the last time that we had a winning season. Is it nice to have some validation and to see those guys make progress? Yes.
We were disruptive to their timing. This is the most physical we have been and we are starting to look like a football team.
We have a good core now, and it's a matter of getting back in focus when we get back to practice this week.
There are a lot of people in Philadelphia who would say that if by the bye week you are 4-4, you should be happy, and let's be honest, that's what we are.
If you want to see young men who are trying to do things the right way, guys who are trying to compete if you want to see young men who are tough and will play their hearts out. When I came, here that's what we wanted to do, play Philly-style football, and that's who we want to be.
Vaughn Charlton, Quarterback
Every game I take it and I see Adam scrambling around, so I'm always ready to go. But any time you see your starting quarterback hurt, you get yourself prepared. I didn't feel negative. I felt confident. I prepare every week like I'm going to play.
The competition kept me in it, and every day I prepared as if I was playing.
I got in the huddle, and it gave me confidence, and I said `let's go' and we went on the field.
After throwing touchdown pass:
It let me regain my composure. When I let go, I knew it was a good ball and I hoped that Bruce (Francis) would come down with it, which he did. At first I was shaky, but then I calmed down and after seeing Adam at halftime, I improved mentally.
Daryl Robinson, Running back
We're real confident about this next game; our motto is to win seven in a row.
Vaughn gets it done in practice, so coming into the game, we all knew he was going to get it done.
Shane Montgomery, Miami head coach
We're disappointed about the game today for us. You've got to give Temple a lot of credit. They played a terrific ballgame and deserved to win this game today. They played better than us. We knew it was going to be a tough game going in. They were just like us, two teams coming off some big wins. Both teams had a lot of momentum going into the game, and so we knew we were going to get their best shot. They're a much improved and young football team, just like we were. We gave them a quick score early with the turnover, and it was back and forth first half. I still felt good about our chances at halftime down 14 to 7. They did a good job of stopping us offensively and then they hit the big play on the play action pass for a touchdown to go up 24-7. I was really proud of the way our kids fought until the end. But Temple played better than us today.
Where you surprised that after losing their quarterback that they were still able to put more points up on the board?
I think they were able to stay within their offense. They didn't struggle offensively. They didn't ask him to do too much. The plays were mostly runs and play action passes. When you can dictate what you want to do there it takes the pressure off the quarterback.
LB Clayton Mullins
Were you discouraged how they were able to put points on the board and make big plays when they needed to?
I thought we did a pretty good job in some situations. The bottom line is they were a good team, and they played better than us today.
