CLEVELAND - Temple defensive end Junior Galette (Spring Valley, N.Y.) has earned Mid-American Conference Defensive Player of the Week honors for the East division, the MAC announced on Monday.
On Saturday, Galette helped Temple to its third consecutive win, a 24-17 decision over Miami (OH), and third consecutive victory in Mid-American play, the first time the Owls have won three straight games since 1990 and three straight conference games since 1967. Galette had four solo tackles and five assists. He also had a career-high three sacks for minus 14 yards. The sophomore forced a fumble in the second quarter, the second of his career.
Galette has played in all eight games with three starts. He has 26 tackles, including 11 solos. He also has a team-best 5.5 TFL and a team-best 5.5 sacks.
Galette is the fourth Owl to receive conference recognition in the last three weeks. Quarterback Adam DiMichele (McKees Rocks, Pa.) earned MAC Offensive co-Player of the Week honors on Oct. 15, while tackle Terrance Knighton (Windsor, Conn.) and kicker Jake Brownell (Thorfare, N.J.) were recognized on Oct. 8.
Riding a three-game winning streak, Temple (3-5, 3-2 MAC) has a bye this week. The Owls return to action on Friday, Nov. 2 at Ohio. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
