PHILADELPHIA - Temple quarterback Adam DiMichele (McKees Rocks, Pa.) has been named the OwlSports.com Athlete of the Month for October.
DiMichele led the Owls to a perfect 3-0 record during the month. In his last appearance against Miami (OH), the team captain suffered a comminuted fracture of his left tibia in the second quarter and underwent surgery on Oct. 21. While he is expected to make a full recovery, DiMichele is out for the remainder of the season.
Prior to his exit, DiMichele had been the model of efficiency. At Bowling Green, he re-wrote his career highs for TD passes (4), completions (27), and attempts (41). His 299 passing yards marked the third time in his career, and first this season, that he has surpassed the 200-yard mark in passing yards. DiMichele was also light on his feet, carrying the ball 12 times, including a 12-yard rush.
DiMichele led Temple to its first win of the season and first win in MAC play with a 16-15 victory over Northern Illinois. He went 18-of-32 for 202 yards, including a 48-yard toss. The Owl signal caller also finished second in rushing, netting 55 yards on 14 carries, including a 20-yard run on third-and-18 in the third quarter.
DiMichele used his poise to lead the Owls from a 20-3 fourth quarter deficit to a 24-20 win at Akron. DiMichele, who also rushed for a career-high 62 yards, went 23-of-34 for three touchdowns, including a19-yard toss to WR Dy'Onne Crudup for the game-winning touchdown. DiMichele earned MAC Offensive Player of the Week honors for the East division and OwlSports.com Athlete of the Week honors.
Against Miami (OH) DiMichele went a perfect 4-of-4 for 36 yards. Two minutes prior to his season-ending injury, he also rushed for a one-yard touchdown, putting the Owls ahead 14-7. In eight games, DiMichele finished 138-of-223 for 1,595 yards and 12 touchdowns. He rushed 75 times for 110 yards and two touchdowns.
Riding a three-game winning streak, Temple (3-5, 3-2 MAC) returns to action on Friday, Nov. 2 at Ohio (4-5, 2-3 MAC). Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. at Peden Stadium. WNTP Radio (990 AM) will broadcast the game.
