AMBLER, PA - The Temple Owls earned a 1-1 draw against Saint Louis University on Friday at Ambler Field. The Owls' record is now 5-3-3 (1-1-1 A-10), while they handed the Billikens (5-3-1, 2-0-1 A-10) their first blemish in conference play.
The scoring began in the 55th minute when Cassi Winchell struck the ball from 35 yards out to beat freshman goalie Kara Williams. Only two minutes later junior Cori Gallagher hit an incredible free kick into the top left corner of the goal to tie the game up for the Owls.
The Billikens outshot the Owls 24 to two, with many of those shots coming from distance. Williams had a career-high 11 saves and was at her best at the end of regulation when she deflected many chances outside the frame to force the game into overtime.
The tie against the Billikens is a first ever for the Owls, who were 0-2 all-time against SLU. It also avenges a 7-0 loss in Saint Louis last season.
The Owls continue their weekend of Atlantic 10 play against Charlotte on Sunday. The game will kickoff at 2:00pm at Ambler Field.
