Ambler, PA- Temple goalkeeper Kara Williams had five saves, but it wasn't enough as the Charlotte 49ers defeated the Owls 1-0 on Sunday at the Ambler Sports Complex. With the loss, the Owls dropped to 5-4-3 (1-2-1 in the A-10) and the 49ers improved to 7-3-1 (2-0-1 in the A-10).
The 49ers came out very strong in the first half registering six shots compared to Temple's one. However, the shot total provided no solace to either team as the score was deadlocked at zero after the first 45 minutes.
The Owls, led by Cori Gallagher, relied on their defense in the second half, but Charlotte's Danielle Mayeaux scored on a beautiful header set up by Lindsey Ozimek's corner kick in the 79th minute. The assist was Ozimek's team leading 9th of the season.
The Owls continued to pressure Charlotte's defense late in the game, but were only able to manage one shot on goal by Wendy Halina as Charlotte sealed the 1-0 victory. Charlotte goalkeeper Lauren Brown had one save in the win.
The Owls continue A-10 play next Saturday, October 12 at 5 p.m. as they travel to Fordham.
