Postgame Quotes

Al Golden, Temple head coach

What did you do to run the ball so well?
I think it all came in third quarter, and I thought that the offensive staff and George [DeLeone] just did a brilliant job. Not just early in the quarter, but they really changed the tempo of the game. The kids just ran a little bit harder.

On the action being behind the right side of the field:
Colin Madison had to fly on home to Chicago for a family matter. We had to make that change, and it was something sudden. We only had one practice to make that change. Derek Dennis and Andre Douglas on the right side, we feel that they are all league caliber players. I thought they did a good job.

On WR Dy'Onne Crudup:
I thought Dy'Onne [Crudup,] stepped up. I thought all those players stepped up to be honest with you. A lot of those guys stepped up, Mike Campell as well. Delano had a big play as well. He did a nice job in the return game as well. Dy'Onne is just that kind of kid; he's a leader and he's tough.

On WR Delano Green:
They basically prompted the change. They are all young. We are constantly working with these guys, and you know what, all of a sudden he's catching the ball well, and he's moving the ball better and we said let's give him a shot. You reward kids who are doing a nice job. We're playing so many young guys, and it's nice to see him respond the way that he did.

We had the ball for almost 39 minutes; you should win the game if you have it for that long.

On defense:
I think they played hard, and they tackled. There's no new defense out there; we are the simplest defense in America.

Vaughn Charlton, QB
On the receivers:
All my receivers stepped up big time today especially Delano [Green,] here, freshman Mike Campbell, Dy'Onne [Crudup,] they all really stepped up.

On Michael Campbell:
I thought he did really well. I know playing myself, as a freshman last year, he was jittery and I think he played well. He had a lot of focus and he came out confident.

Doug Martin, Kent State head coach
I would just like to complement Temple. They played a great game. And did a good job of taking advantage of our lack of experience at the quarterback position by loading the line of scrimmage up to stop the run and we weren't able to move the ball well enough to keep them off their running game. That was really the key to the game. They did a nice job defending us. We certainly didn't play as well offensively as we could have but we're a little bit limited right now with the quarterback position, and that is really hamstringing us right now. But we fought our way through it. I though our defense played an outstanding game for the most part and came up with some special teams things to give us a chance to win there also. We've had a good special teams unit, but right now we just don't have enough bullets in the gun to beat a team like that. But we will rebound.

On RB Eugene Jarvis and the quarterback position:
They had nine and ten people waiting on Eugene so when we would hand it to him we wouldn't make many yards. You have to be able to throw the ball to get them out of there so that you can hand it to Eugene. That was the whole key to the game. We never threw it well enough to make them respect it to where we could hand it to Eugene and make some yards. So that is what it is right now. We'll have to evaluate, maybe Anthony Magazu might be able to play a little bit next week at quarterback for us also, along with Jon [Brown]; whatever we need to do there to create some passing game. But they can put both safeties up there and you can't throw it, it doesn't matter how many times you hand it off, you can't block those guys.

On the offensive line and QB Jon Brown:
We didn't play well. It wasn't just the quarterback. We didn't play well offensively as a whole. We didn't protect the passer, we didn't run block very well and we dropped a couple balls. John made some mistakes too. When you lose one quarterback it's hard, but when you lose three it's downright almost impossible. That is kind of where we are. Our kids played hard. There is no lack of fight in them. We're just a little hamstrung right now.

Jon Brown, QB
Our defense really went out there and played their tails off today. We just didn't make plays, and you can't turn the ball over. We made some mistakes.
