PRINCETON, NJ - The Temple women's tennis team dropped its first match of the season, falling to Penn State, 4-3, at Princeton Saturday afternoon. The Owls fall to 2-1 with the loss while the Nittany Lions improve to 1-3.
"It was nice to see everyone play hard today, but Penn State got the better of us today," said Temple head coach Traci Green. "They wanted it more than we did.
Green's charges were missing freshman Anastasiia Rukavyshnykova, the team's fifth singles player, who missed the trip due to the chicken pox. Junior Dina Senika, who lost at second singles, was playing with flu-like symptoms.
Senior Yuri Kurashima posted a straight set win at first singles while freshmen Radka Ferancova and Christine Clermont posted wins at third and fifth singles, respectively. Clermont came from behind to win her match, defeating Lauren McCarthy in a tie-brekaer.
The Owls next play at Lehigh on Monday (3:30 p.m.).
