PHILADELPHIA - Temple sophomore Courtney Norene has been named the Atlantic 10's Player of the Week, the conference announced Monday. In the opening weekend of the 2007 season, Norene batted a team-best .636 en route to hitting four homeruns, scoring six runs and collecting seven RBI in the Worth Wildcat Tournament held in Tucson, AZ.

In game one of Friday's double-header with Middle Tennessee State and #4 Arizona, Norene homered three times and tallied six RBI out of the six spot for second-year head coach Casey Dickson. The sophomore slammed a two-run homerun in the second then a solo long-ball in the third. With the Owls trailing by four runs heading into the top half of the seventh, Norene blasted a three-run homerun.

With the Cherry and White trailing nine runs in Friday's second game against the Wildcats, Norene stepped to the plate in the bottom half of the fourth and launched a solo homerun.

Norene's four homerun performance on Friday already matches her long-ball output from the 2006 season and moves her into a four-way tie for eighth place (Aida Esquer 2002-05; Danielle Fagan, 2006; and Lauren Evans, 2003-06) all-time on Temple's career homerun list with eight.

The Owls will enjoy a lengthy hiatus before resuming action in Norman, Okla. Saturday, March 3 against Wichita State in the OU Residence Inn Invitational.
