PHILADELPHIA - Temple University sophomore guard Dionte Christmas has been named to the 2007 NABC Second Team All-District 3 squad. The Philadelphia native (Philadelphia Lutheran Christian Academy) was joined on the second team by fellow Big 5 players Mike Nardi (Villanova) and Mark Zoller (Penn). Four other city players - Curtis Sumpter (Villanova), Ahmad Nivins (Saint Joseph's), Ibby Jaaber (Penn) and Frank Elegar (Drexel) - were named First Team All-District 3.
Christmas, a four-time Atlantic 10 Conference Player of the Week honoree, currently leads the A-10 and the city with a 20.3 scoring average. The 6-4 guard also ranks among the conference leaders in three-pointers made (2nd, 2.93 pg.), free throw percentage (3rd, .874), field goal percentage (8th, .481) and steals (10th, 1.38 spg.).
Christmas has scored 20 or more points 17 times and 30 or more points five times, both A-10 bests. He became the first Temple player since Terence Stansbury (1983) to score 30 or more points in three consecutive games. His free throw percentage ranks second on the Owls' all-time list, trailing only Nate Blackwell's school-record 90.7 percentage set in 1987.
Temple (12-15, 6-8) hosts Dayton (16-11, 6-8) in its final regular season home game tonight at the Liacouras Center (7:00 p.m.).
