DeLAND, FL - Senior Jessica Rohn and sophomore Courtney Norene each knocked in two runs apiece as Temple (3-9) captured its second consecutive win with an 11-3 victory over Bethune-Cookman (8-15) Saturday morning on day two of the Stetson Tournament in DeLand, Fla.
Freshman pitcher Shannon James made her first career Temple start and threw 4.1 innings while striking out four in the win. Freshman Lanaya Jenkins tossed five innings while surrendering six earned runs in the loss for the Wildcats.
The Cherry and White, under the direction of second-year head coach Casey Dickson, raced to an early seven-run lead after two and a half innings. In the top half of the first, senior Adrienne Repsher scored after Norene's two-out RBI single into centerfield. Two innings later, the Owls plated six more runs after freshman Lauren Coutu, in her first career Temple at-bat, cleared the bases with a three-run triple. James helped her own cause after following Coutu with an RBI double.
After junior Anna Rico reached on a Widlcat error to start the fourth, the Artesia, Calif. native stole second and would later score after Rohn's RBI double. Rohn later scored, pushing the Temple lead to 9-0, after stealing third base and Repsher sent a sacrifice fly to right field.
The Owls concluded their 11-run performance after Rico and junior Amanda Carver scored on a Rohn RBI single in the top of the fifth. The Temple scoring output matches their season-high (vs. Middle Tennessee State, 2/16).
The Cherry and White will next look to avenge Friday night's 8-1 loss to Stetson in their final tournament contest on Sunday morning at 11:30 a.m.
