PHILADELPHIA - The 2007 Temple University football schedule, featuring six home games as part of the Owls' inaugural Mid-American Conference season, was announced today. Temple, which spent the past two seasons as a league affiliate before receiving full football member status this year, will play in the MAC East division with Akron, Bowling Green, Buffalo, Kent State, Miami and Ohio.
"Whether you are a Temple football alum, student, employee, or just a fan of college football, the 2007 schedule has something for everyone," said head coach Al Golden. "The opener against Navy, an exciting trip to Hartford to play Big East foe Connecticut, traveling to storied West Point to take on Army, the inaugural MAC season and the long-awaited return of Coach Paterno and the Nittany Lions to Philly provide a myriad of opportunity. The staff and players are working extremely hard and we hope to have an unprecedented crowd on hand when we open the season versus the Midshipmen in 169 days."
"We are very pleased with the 2007 Temple football schedule," said Director of Athletics Bill Bradshaw. "It encompasses our goal of a regionalized, competitive, non-conference schedule that coincides with our inaugural season in the Mid-American Conference. This will serve as the scheduling blueprint for the Temple football program for years to come."

Temple will open its season with consecutive home games for the first time since 2002, when it hosts Navy on Thursday evening, August 30, before welcoming Buffalo on Saturday, September 8. The Owls then take flight for three straight road contests at Connecticut (Sept. 15), Bowling Green (Sept. 22) and Army (Sept. 29). The meeting with the Black Knights will be televised nationally on one of the ESPN outlets (ESPN, ESPN2, ESPN Classic, ESPNU).
Temple then competes against three consecutive league foes, hosting Northern Illinois (Oct. 6) in the annual homecoming game before playing at Akron (Oct.13) and welcoming Miami (Oct. 20). The Owls then have a bye before traveling to Athens, Ohio to play the Bobcats in a Friday evening contest on November 2. The legendary Joe Paterno brings his Nittany Lions to Philadelphia for a much anticipated game on November 10, before the Owls host Kent State the following Saturday (Nov. 17). Temple concludes its regular season at Western Michigan on Saturday, November 24.
The 2006 MAC Championship will take place at Ford Field in Detroit on Saturday, December 1. Full and partial season tickets for Temple Football are available by calling 215-204-8499. Fans can also place an advanced ticket order for the Temple-Navy game via the Owls' official ticket web site, www.owlstix.com.
Temple begins spring practice on Monday, March 26, and will conclude the drills with the annual Cherry & White intra-squad scrimmage on Saturday, April 21, at the Ambler (Pa.) Sports Complex. Last season, the Owls played 22 true freshmen, the most in Division I-A. They competed against eight bowl teams, the third most in the nation, behind only national champion Florida (10) and Stanford (9), during the regular season. Temple, which has only two scholarship seniors on its 2007 roster, signed the highest rated recruiting class in the MAC according to Scout.com on February 7.
