Frengs Five Point Performance Leads Temple Over Brown, 13-10

PROVIDENCE, R.I.-Allison Frengs scored four goals and assisted on another to lead the visiting Temple women's lacrosse team to a 13-10 win over Brown on Saturday afternoon.  Frengs also collected a game-high five draw controls as the Owls improved to 2-3 on the season.  Brown falls to 1-4 overall.

Nicole Caniglia, Johna Capaldo, Whitney Richards and Casey Cech all added two goals for Temple, while Berkley Summerlin netted one.  Kelly Yemm dished one assist.

Brown jumped out to an early 2-0 lead just four minutes into the contest, thanks to two great feeds from Molly McCarthy.  The Owls quickly responded, however, and just two minutes later tied the game.  Frengs got Temple started with an unassisted goal at 24:56 and Yemm found a cutting Caniglia for the equalizer at 21:40.  The teams traded two-goal runs for the next seven minutes to keep the game tight but the Owls used a five-goal run to take a 9-6 lead at the break.  Frengs got it started with a helper on Cech's goal at 7:21 to make it 6-5 and then rattled off the next three goals to make it 8-6 in favor of Temple with just over two minutes to play.  Summerlin found the back of the net with just three seconds left to play in the first half to end the high-scoring stanza.

The Bears struck first, just as they had in the first half, cutting Temple's lead to just two (9-7) with just under 27 minutes to play.  Capaldo countered to preserve the three-goal Cherry and White lead.  Krystina DeLuca again brought the Bears to within two goals with another score on a free position attempt, but Cech and Capaldo scored back-to-back goals in a span of 2:44 to take its biggest lead of the day, 12-8, with 6:58 remaining.

McCarthy and Jesse Nunn scored at 6:42 and 4:14 to make it a 12-10 game, but Whitney Richards scored an unassisted goal with 2:43 left to put the game out of reach.

Bridget McMullan had five saves playing all 60 minutes.

Temple continues its road trip when it travels to Penn State on Tuesday for a 6:30 p.m. game.
