Temple Set for Doubleheader at Delaware State

PHILADELPHIA - The Temple women's softball team (3-10), under the direction of second-year head coach Casey Dickson, take to the road and Dover, Del. for a doubleheader on Wednesday, March 21 at Delaware State. Game one is set to start at 2:00 p.m. while the first pitch of game two will be thrown at approximately 4:00 p.m.
The Cherry and White come into Wednesday's twin bill sitting atop three offensive categories in the Atlantic 10. The Owls' .290 team batting average ranks best in the conference while their 95 hits and 12 homeruns rank second.
Sophomore catcher Courtney Norene has done her fair share of damage to opposing pitching staffs as the Wheatland, Calif. native boasts a conference-best .486 batting average and five homeruns. Sophomore Katie Burdeaux, while also splitting her time on the mound for Dickson, ranks fourth in the Atlantic 10 with a .450 batting clip.
Senior first baseman Adrienne Repsher, one of three Owls to start in all 13 games thus far, leads all Temple players with 12 RBI while true freshman Krystle Metzler has added 10. Norene's team-high 17 hits is followed by Repsher's 12. Norene ranks second among all Owls with 11 RBI.
The bulk of the pitching load has been shouldered by true freshman Ashley Smuda (2-5). Smuda's 40.2 innings of work, 13 appearances and 29 strikeouts is a team-best while her 4.82 ERA ranks second. Fellow true freshman Shannon James (1-1) has been a pleasant surprise for Dickson as her 4.42 ERA ranks first among all Temple hurlers.
Following Wednesday's two-game clash with the Hornets, Dickson and company will gear up for their Atlantic 10 and season home-opener on Sunday, March 25 in a doubleheader with Charlotte at the Ambler Sports Complex. Game one will begin at noon while game two is set to start at approximately 2:00 p.m.
