PHILADELPHIA - Casey Cech netted a game-high four goals, including three to pace a late Owl offensive surge, but it was not enough as Temple dropped a close non-conference game, 10-7, to the visiting Old Dominion Monarchs on Saturday afternoon. Cech added three draw controls and one groundball as Temple falls to 2-5 on the season. Old Dominion improves to 3-1.
Chelsea Rosiek finished the day with one goal and one assist, while Allison Frengs and Berkley Summerlin each added a goal. Whitney Richards and Johna Capaldo dished one assist a piece. Temple raced out to a two goal lead after Frengs and Summerlin netted unassisted tallies at 29:36 and 27:19, respectively. That would be the last lead of the game for the Owls, however, as Old Dominion went on a eight goal run to take a 8-2 lead with just over 21 minutes remaining in the game. Ashley Kellogg, Caroline Jacobs and Kelly Kimener each found the back of the net twice during that span. The Monarchs were quite a physical team, earning four yellow cards, but it was Katie Veneziale's red card at 21:08 that seemed to tip the balance of the game into Temple's hands. Playing a woman-up, the Owls rattled off four straight goals to cut Old Dominion's lead to just two goals (8-6) with just over 11 minutes remaining. Capaldo first found a cutting Cech at 15:16 to make it 8-3. Richards fed the senior midfielder just two and a half minutes later to make it 8-4 and Rosiek's pass made it 8-5 at 11:45. Rosiek's unassisted goal just 39 seconds later made the score closer than it had been since the opening minutes and forced the Monarchs to take a time out and regroup. Old Dominion came out of the break and rattled off two more goals to make it 10-6 with just under six minutes remaining. Cech tried to mount a comeback with a free position goal at 2:10 but it was too little too late. As time winded down, the Owls continuously fired shots at Monarch goalie Sara Larson but the junior netminder was too tough and earned her third win, 10-7. Temple goaltender Bridget McMullan had five saves, while Larson finished with 10 on the day. Temple was dominant in draw controls, earning 12 to Old Dominion's seven. The Owls also had a slight edge in shots, taking 27 to ODU's 21. Temple is off until Friday, March 30 when it hosts Rutgers at 4 p.m.Ep. 30: First Episode of 2026!
