Temple Falls To 18/19 Rutgers, 14-10

PHILADELPHIA - Allison Frengs scored four goals, including two in the final two minutes of the game, but it was not enough to topple the #18/19 Rutgers Scarlet Knights, who took their eighth victory of the season, 14-10.  Casey Cech added three goals but the Owls could not find an answer for RU's Nina Frankoski, who netted seven goals to lead the Scarlet Knights to their second straight victory.  Temple falls to 2-6 on the season, while Rutgers improves to 8-2.

Whitney Richards, Nicole Caniglia and Chelsea Rosiek all scored one goal for the Owls, while Johna Capaldo dished the Cherry and White's lone assist.

The Scarlet Knights raced out to a 5-0 lead, paced by three free position goals by Frankoski.  Frengs finally got the Owls on the board with an unassisted goal at 13:34 and started a three goal Temple run that made it 5-3 with just over nine minutes to play.  That was too close for Frankoski's liking however, and the sophomore rattled off two more goals to make it 7-3 at 6:19.  Capaldo found Cech at 3:53 to cut Rutgers lead to three goals (7-4) at halftime.  

Rutgers continued to dominate in the opening minutes of the second stanza to increase its lead to six goals (10-4) with 21 minutes to play.  Richards and Caniglia each netted back-to-back tallies to make it a four goal game (10-6) with 14 and a half minutes to play but that would be as close as Temple could get.  Down six goals with just over five minutes to play, Temple needed a big finish if it hoped to pull off the upset.  Cech collected the rebound off of her missed shot to get the late rally started with 2:39 remaining and Frengs added two more unassisted goals in the final minute and a half but Jamie Farewell's goal with 1:12 remaining ended the game and Temple's victory bid.

Temple goaltender Bridget McMullan had 14 saves, while Sandra Abel stopped 11 Owl shots. 

Temple held a slight edge in shots (31-27) and draw controls (14-12). 

The Cherry and White begin Atlantic 10 play on Friday, April 6 when they host Massachusetts at 3 p.m.
