AMBLER, PA - For the second time in six days, senior Adrienne Repsher has etched herself into the Temple record books. While kicking off a 13-game homestand with a doubleheader sweep of Wagner, Repsher's game two long-ball, her ninth this season and second of the afternoon, places her atop the Cherry and White single-season homerun chart. The Owls cruised to a 6-1 win in game one before rallying from a five-run deficit for a 10-6 victory in game two (5 ½ innings).
Repsher's two homeruns only highlighted a career day for the Nazareth, Pa. native at the plate. In two games, the senior first baseman reached safely in all seven of her plate appearances while posting four RBI and tallying five runs scored. Temple's single-season homerun crown was formerly owned by Danielle Fagan (2006).
"Adrienne's offensive production this season has been exceptional and a critical key to our team's success," praised second-year head coach Casey Dickson. "She has really asserted herself and become one of the top players in our conference."
The Cherry and White jumped out to an early two-run lead in game one after Repsher's first inning homerun. With junior Natalie Wagner aboard, the left-hander poked a Kate Eshelman offering off the left centerfield scoreboard.
While true freshman hurler Ashley Smuda (6-7) had the Temple defense on cruise control, the Owls pushed their lead to a five-run cushion with three tallies in the third. Senior Jessica Rohn's monster solo homerun to leftfield set the table for sophomore Courtney Norene's opposite field long-ball, with Repsher standing on second, two batters later.
Smuda lasted four innings, struck out four and allowed just four hits en route to her team-best sixth win this season. Sophomore Katie Burdeaux and junior Brianna Dairy tossed a combined three innings of relief.
In the night-cap, the Cherry and White dug themselves a first inning five-run hole before hanging three runs on the board in each of their first two plate appearances. As the Owls took the lead, never to be relinquished, Dairy collected her first career Temple win following five innings of work and three strikeouts.
"I felt it was important to stick it out with Brianna despite the first inning," added Dickson. "She really did a great job of battling back and settling down."
With one out in the first, Repsher's record-setting two-run homerun to straight-away centerfield cut the Seahawks' lead to three runs. An inning later, sophomore Nicole Lee's bases-loaded single back through the box supplied the hosts with a one-run advantage.
The Cherry and White added some insurance in the bottom of the fifth following Rohn's two-run single. Two batters later, Burdeaux added a two-run single of her own to the Temple cause.
In addition to Repsher, Rohn, Lee and true freshman Krystle Metzler each collected two hits for the Owls.
Temple (9-14, 3-3) continues its two week homestand on Thursday in a non-conference doubleheader with St. Francis (Pa.). The first pitch of game one is scheduled for 2:30 p.m.
