Temple Suffers Narrow Loss to St. Bonaventure, 8-7

OLEAN, N.Y.- Senior Allison Frengs netted three goals but it was not enough as the St. Bonaventure Bonnies edged the Temple Owls, 8-7, on Friday afternoon. Frengs made it a one-goal contest, 8-7, with 19:52 remaining and began a Cherry and White shot barrage over the final 19 minutes, including three free position shots but it was not enought to stop the Bonnies, who took their sixth straight game. Temple falls to 4-9, 2-2 in A-10 play, while SBU improves to 7-4, 4-0 in Conference play.
The Bonnies took the lead just 31 seconds into the contest and followed with a tally just minutes later to make it 2-0 at the 26 minute mark. Frengs got the Owls on the board with an unassisted goal at 25:54 but SBU answered just two minutes later to make it 3-1. Temple responded with a 3-0 run to take its first lead of the game, 4-3, with 8:45 left in the half, thanks to goals by Frengs, Hillary Richards and Casey Cech. Kimberly Ross broke a 15-minute scoreless streak for the Bonnies with her second goal of the game. Just minutes later,Brenna Houghton found Katelyn Faas camped in front of the TU cage to give the lead back to the Brown and White, 6-5, with 6:38 remaining.
Temple regained the lead and the momentum with two goals by Whitney Richards and Berkley Summerlin in just 28 seconds in the final minutes of the half to take a 6-5 edge at the break.
A Bonnies goal 5:43 into the final frame started a three-goal spurt over a three-minute span for St. Bonaventure, giving them a 8-6 lead. Frengs made it a one-goal contest, 8-7, with 19:52 remaining as she netted her third goal of the game. Over the final 19 minutes the Owls got off eight shots, including three free position shots, but were unable to beat SBU goalie Ebony Preston.
For the game, Temple outshot St. Bonaventure 30-26 and held a slight edge in draw controls, 9-8.
Bridget McMullan had 10 saves in goal for the Cherry and White.
Temple continues it road stand with a game at Duquesne on Sunday at 1 p.m.
