Women's Tennis Beats UMass, 4-1, To Advance To A-10 Finals

MONROEVILLE, PA - The Temple women's tennis team defeated fourth-seed Massachusetts, 4-1, in the semifinals of the 2007 Atlantic 10 Women's Tennis Championship Saturday afternoon. The Owls improve to 16-3 on the season and will compete in the final round against second-seed and three-time defending A-10 champion Richmond on Sunday, April 22 at 10:30 a.m.
In doubles action, the Minutewomen clinched the point as Dina Senkina and Radka Ferancova were the lone Owl pair to win a match, 8-2, at the second spot.
While Yuri Kurashima and Dina Senkina did not finish their singles matches (first and second), Temple clinched victories at the No. 3-6 spots to claim the victory. Radka Ferancova blanked Dasa Stanimirovic, 6-0, 6-0 for her 12th win of the season at No. 3 singles. Anastasiia Rukavyshnykova defeated Maude Lecluyse, 6-2, 7-5 at the fourth spot, Christine Clermont pulled out a 6-2, 6-0 win at fifth singles against Stephanie Gimenez, and Felicia Frazier beat Laura Murillo, 6-3, 6-2 at the sixth spot to give the Owls a 4-1 victory.
The Owls are looking to capture their first A-10 title since 2003, while the Spiders are seeking their fourth consecutive league championship. This will be the second time the two teams have met this season, the first match resulting in a 4-3 Temple victory.
