PHILADELPHIA - The Temple softball team (14-16, 7-5), coming off eight wins in its last 10 outings, heads west for a two-game conference set with Saint Louis (22-27, 7-6). Game one is scheduled for Friday night at 8:00 p.m. (EST) while game two is set for Saturday at 1:00 p.m. (EST).
The Temple offensive attack, ranked first in the Atlantic 10 with a .309 team batting clip, is led by senior All-America candidate Adrienne Repsher. Heading into the week, the veteran first baseman is tops in the league in batting average (.464), home runs (13) and slugging percentage (1.036) while ranking third with 35 RBI. On the national stage, Repsher ranks first in slugging percentage, second in home runs per game (.45), seventh in RBI per game (1.21) and 12th in batting average.
Repsher's offensive success this season could very well be attributed to the potent lineup hitting behind her. Sophomore Katie Burdeaux, having tallied 19 RBI, ranks second behind Repsher in the conference, and 19th-nationally, with a .442 batting average and fourth with seven home runs. Her .885 slugging percentage places the right-hander eighth-nationally. Sophomore Courtney Norene has homered eight times, ranked fourth in the conference, while tallying a .375 batting clip.
Freshman catcher Krystle Metzler has been one-half of a freshman duo for second-year head coach Casey Dickson that has far exceeded expectations. Metzler ranks fourth on the Owls with a .342 batting average while hitting three home runs and 23 RBI. Freshman hurler Ashley Smuda's (8-8) team-best 3.29 ERA is accompanied by five complete games and 79 strikeouts.
Junior pitcher Brianna Dairy has tallied three wins in her last four outings. The right-hander's 36 innings-pitched and 27 strikeouts ranks second on the team.
Following their two-game tilt with the Billikens, the Owls concluded their non-conference schedule with a twin bill at Villanova on Tuesday, May 1 starting at 3:00 p.m.
