PHILADELPHIA- It really was Senior Day as the Class of 2007 scored 11 of Temple's 16 goals to lead the Owls to a 16-12 victory over the La Salle Explorers in TU's home finale. Allison Frengs lead all scorers with five goals and one assist as Temple improves to 6-9 overall and 4-2 in A-10 play. Emily Bonczek had five goals for the Explorers who fall to 4-10 overall and 0-6 in Conference play.
Casey Cech and Kelly Yemm each had two goals and one assist, while Johna Capaldo scored once and assisted on three others. Brittany Hoffman and Nicole Caniglia also had two goals for the Owls. Katie Yori netted one goal, as did Whitney Richards. Richards also dished two assists. Chelsea Rosiek had one assist on the day.
Temple's seniors helped the Owls jump out to a 6-0 lead in the first 12 minutes of the contest. Bonczek finally got the Explorers on the board with an unassisted goal at 15:42 and began a three goal La Salle run to make it 6-3 with just under 11 minutes to play. Yemm and Frengs made it a five goal game (8-3) at the 5:50 mark but Bonzcek struck again at 1:05 to make it 8-4. Hoffman's goal with 53 seconds remaining in the half gave the Owls a 9-4 advantage at the half.
The Explorers came out firing in the second half, scoring three straight goals to cut Temple's lead to two (9-7) just five minutes into the stanza. Cech found Richards at 24:07 to make it 10-7 but Catie Borneman answered with an assisted goal at 20:45 to keep it close. That would be as close as it would get, however, as the Owls were able to score two goals for every Explorer one down the stretch. Yemm sccoped in a goal with nine tenths of a second remaining for the 16-12 result.
Bridget McMullan had seven saves in goal for Temple, while Brittany Friedrich stopped 13 Cherry and White shots.
