ST. LOUIS, MO - After posting just six hits in a 3-1 loss Friday night, the Temple softball team (15-17, 8-6) pounded out 12 hits and tallied nine runs in the fifth inning en route to an emphatic 12-0 Atlantic 10 win over Saint Louis (23-30, 8-7) on Saturday afternoon at the Billiken Sports Center. Senior All-America candidate Adrienne Repsher, the reigning Atlantic 10 Player of the Week, collected two hits, scored two runs and drove in three more.

Junior Brianna Dairy (5-4), making her second start against the Billikens in as many days, tossed five shutout innings while allowing four hits and striking out six. Additionally, the right-hander is the first Owl this season to throw more than five innings while issuing zero walks.

"We decided to go with Brianna again today because, despite the loss last night, we felt she threw really well," praised second-year head coach Casey Dickson. "She's put together two really exceptional outings for us."

The fact that Dairy held onto the shutout could very well be attributed to the trio of junior Amanda Carver, senior Jessica Rohn and freshman Krystle Metzler. With no outs in the bottom half of the fourth, senior Christy Ernst's double to leftfield looked to score freshman Nicki Jost easily. However, Carver played the carom well then quickly found Rohn on the relay. Rohn pivoted and tossed a strike to Metzler, who applied the tag and preserved the shutout, despite taking a bump from Jost.

Junior Lorena Floccari (9-13) last four innings and allowed just two earned runs en route to the loss. Freshman Stacey Gillette assumed the circle in the top of the fifth, already down three runs, before surrendering eight hits and nine runs, all of them earned.

As a result of one run each, including junior Anna Rico's second career home run, in the second, third and fourth innings, the Cherry and White held a comfortable lead heading into the fifth with Dairy cruising. Repsher's lead-off infield single ignited a nine-run fifth inning for the Owls that featured 13 batters and eight hits.

With the bases-loaded, two outs and four runs already across for Temple, Repsher's three-run double pushed the lead to 10-0. One batter later, junior Brittany Burks, having already singled earlier in the inning, slammed her first home run of the season, a two-run shot, to left centerfield.

Eight different Owls collected at least one hit and crossed the plate at least once, while senior Jessica Rohn, Repsher, Burks and sophomore Nicole Lee each tallied two hits and also scored twice.

"We came out today with adjustments from what we did last night," observed Dickson.

Rico added her second RBI of the game, a sacrifice bunt, in the marathon fifth inning.

The Owls return to the Philadelphia area for a non-conference doubleheader on Tuesday at Villanova. The first pitch of game one is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
