PHILADELPHIA - Temple University's Radka Ferancova was named the Atlantic 10 Women's Tennis Rookie of the Week after helping the Owls to a 2-1 record on the week, defeating A-10 rivals Xavier and George Washington. This is Ferancova's second Rookie of the Week honor.
Ferancova, a freshman from Lucenec, Slovakia, was perfect at third singles and second doubles on the week. Ferancova opened the week against Princeton with a 6-7, 6-4, 1-0 win over Sarah Huah, and then paired with Dina Senkina to earn an 8-6 victory at the No. 2 doubles spot as the Owls fell to the Tigers, 5-2, on Thursday night.
The Owls recovered and beat A-10 competitors Xavier and George Washington later in the week. On Saturday, Temple beat Xavier, 5-2, with Ferancova defeating Jill Durco, 6-7, 6-4, 10-7, at the third singles spot and clinching an 8-2 win at No. 2 doubles with Senkina. On Sunday, the Owls blanked George Washington, 7-0. Ferancova bested Mara Frisch, 6-1, 6-2, at third singles and, once again, teamed with Senkina for an 8-3 victory at the second doubles position.
Ferancova now holds a record of 9-1 at No. 3 singles on the season and a 10-2 record with Senkina at No. 2 doubles.
The Owls (12-3) will return to action on Wednesday, April 4th (2:00 p.m.) when they travel to UMBC.
