BRONX, NY - Senior Adrienne Repsher's third inning solo homerun was the 14th of her career and now ranks her first all-time on the Temple (6-12, 2-1) career homerun list. Despite the record-setting homerun, the Owls' two-game winning streak was ended with a 22-4 Atlantic 10 loss to Fordham (23-12, 7-0) on Thursday afternoon.
Sophomore hurler Katie Burdeaux (0-4) lasted just two innings before being chased after surrendering 11 earned runs on 11 hits. Freshman Nicole Ayres (9-2) tossed three innings in picking up the win for the Rams.
Repsher's long-ball, which eclipses former Owl Lynsey Grace's (2001-04) all-time output, came on the heels of a three-run homerun from fellow classmate Jessica Rohn. In 18 games this season, the veteran first baseman has already eclipsed career-highs with five homeruns and 20 RBI.
With the Cherry and White in a 10-run hole, junior Amanda Carver led off the top half of the third with a single before junior Anna Rico reached on a walk and Rohn launched her third homerun of the season. One batter later, Repsher pulled an Ayres' offering over the right-field fence and catapulted herself into the Temple record books.
The Owls were forced to play from behind after the Rams posted five runs in each of the first two innings. Sophomore Mary Beth Puccio's first inning grand slam, coupled with senior Krystle Henry's second inning three-run homerun, supplied the Atlantic 10's first place team with the comfortable advantage never to be relinquished.
Carver's 2-for-2 day at the dish raises her season average to .319 while true freshman Ashley Smuda threw a scoreless two-thirds of an inning, lowering her team-best ERA to 3.78.
The Cherry and White, under the direction of second-year head coach Casey Dickson, will look to rebound against the Rams Friday morning in the series' second game at 10:00 a.m.
