PHILADELPHIA - Senior captain Allison Frengs scored three goals to lead Temple to a huge come-from-behind win over the visiting Richmond Spiders, 9-8, on Easter Sunday.  Frengs netted two goals in a five-goal Temple run to tie the game at seven and eventually give the Cherry and White their first win over the Spiders since the 2004 season.  Temple improves to 4-6 overall and a perfect 2-0 in the Atlantic 10, while the Spiders fall to 8-5, 2-1 in Conference play.

Whitney Richards scored two goals, including the game-winner, and added an assist in the winning effort.  Casey Cech also netted two goals, while Johna Capaldo and Berkley Summerlin each added one.  Kelly Yemm assisted on Richards' game-winning goal.

Allison Furstenburg and Mandy Friend shoulder the Richmond scoring load with four goals each.

The very physical game featured six yellow and red cards, including five by the Spiders, allowing the Owls to play a woman-up for six minutes in the second half and mount their successful comeback.

Richmond took an early 2-0 lead but the Owls battled back to tie the score at two with just under 16 minutes to play.  That would be as close as Temple could get however, as the Spiders rattled off five straight goals, including three to end the half with a 5-2 result.

Friend and Furstenburg allowed the Spiders to extend their lead to five (7-2) early in the second half but Temple would not remain quiet for much longer.  Richards' low sidearm free position goal at 26:32 gave TU its first goal in 20 minutes and began a five goal run that tied the score at seven with 14 minutes to play.  Cech found the back of the net four minutes later to make it 7-4 and Frengs made it a two goal game with an unassisted goal with 20:07 to play.  Cech struck again at 16:56, pulling Temple to within one goal.  A frustrated Richmond squad began to swing and an ensuing Mandy Friend yellow card gave Temple an extra player advantage and just the momentum that it needed to reclaim the game.  Frengs wasted no time capitalizing on the extra player opportunity, tying the game at seven at the 14 minute mark.  The Spiders refused to quit and Furstenburg battled her way into the eight meter to put RU back on top with a free position goal at 12:29.  That would be the final goal of the game for Richmond, however, as Temple answered with two straight goals to earn its second straight win.  Richards found Capaldo, who banged a shot off the post into the upper left-hand corner of the goal for the equalizer at 12:09 and Yemm found Richards for the game-winner at 6:04.  Temple was able to hold on for the remainder of the game, though four turnovers by the teams in the final minute could have resulted in an overtime period.

Temple goaltender Bridget McMullan had eight saves, while Jackie Swansburg stopped seven Owl shots.
