PHILADELPHIA- Senior Allison Frengs and junior Hillary Richards have been named to the 2007 Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Association (IWLCA) Regional All-American Second Team. This is the third straight season that Frengs has garnered Regional All-American distinction, who was voted to the Atlantic 10's First Team earlier this season. This is the first All-American honor for Richards.
A three-time A-10 First Team selection, Frengs has led Temple in scoring the last three seasons. She scored 42 goals, including at least a hat trick in nine games, and dished eight assists this season. Frengs was voted the A-10 Co-Player of the Week and womenslacrosse.com's Honor Roll after scoring the game-winning goal against Massachusetts (4/6) and three goals, including two in a comeback run that tied the game, to give TU its first win over Richmond (4/8) since April 25, 2004. She has also strung together 25 straight games with either a goal or an assist, which was the 22nd longest streak in the nation. A strong all-around player, the Collingswood, N.J. native led the team in draw controls (34) and had 11 caused turnovers and 18 groundballs.
Richards was an extremely strong presence in the Temple midfield this season, earning a spot on the Atlantic 10's Second Team. Starting in every game, she was second on the team in draw controls (33), groundballs (30) and caused turnovers (14) and also had two goals and two assists. She had three draw controls in four different games this season, but played her best lacrosse against La Salle (4/27), collecting five draw controls, two caused turnovers and two groundballs to aid in the win.
Both Frengs and Richards are now eligible for inclusion on the IWLCA/US Lacrosse All-American teams, which will be announced May 29. The IWLCA and US Lacrosse will honor the National All-Americans at an awards banquet on June 16, 2007 in Downingtown, Pa.
