SAN DIEGO, CA - Larry Dougherty, Temple's Assistant Athletic Director for Media Relations, has been named the 3rd Vice President of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) for the 2007-08 year. Dougherty becomes just the second person from a Philadelphia area school to serve on the Executive Board joining long-time Penn SID C. Robert Paul, CoSIDA's President for the 1956-57 year.

"I am honored to be selected to serve in the position of 3rd Vice President of CoSIDA," Dougherty said. "CoSIDA is an outstanding organization of dedicated public relations professionals and hopefully I can live up to the high standard of excellence established by my esteemed colleagues who have preceded me on the executive board."

In his fifth year in Owl Country, Dougherty oversees the media relations and athletic publications of the University's 24-sport Division I athletic program. While primarily serving as the media relations contact for Temple's storied men's basketball program, Dougherty also manages all sports information responsibilities for the men's soccer, men's and women's tennis and men's and women's crew programs. Additionally, Dougherty has assumed the role of coordinating all television and radio efforts.

Dougherty joined the Owls' staff after serving 15 years in the media relations department at Saint Joseph's University, the last eight as the school's assistant athletic director for media relations. Prior to SJU, he served as the SID at Nicholls State for one year and as the SID of the East Coast Conference for two years.

Dougherty recently served as Chair of the Organizing Committee for the 2004 ECAC-SIDA Workshop held in Valley Forge, Pa., and the 2005 CoSIDA Workshop held in Philadelphia. He also serves on the ECAC-SIDA Executive Board as the University Division Representative and as the President of Philly-SIDA, an organization he helped to establish in 2003.

"Larry is not only a valuable member of senior staff at Temple University, but an integral part of the fabric of intercollegiate athletics in the Philadelphia area," praised Temple Director of Athletics Bill Bradshaw. "He has worked extremely hard during his career to promote student-athletes and will bring that work ethic and professionalism to the CoSIDA Board."

CoSIDA, founded in 1957, is a nation-wide organization with over 2,200 members.
