PHILADELPHIA - Joe Jones, a freshman running back from Davie, Fla. (South Broward HS), suffered a ruptured left Achilles tendon Tuesday and will miss the entire 2007 season. The 5-11, 200-pound newcomer suffered the injury in a non-contact drill during the team's afternoon practice session. He is expected to make a full recovery and be able to compete during the 2008 season.
"This is unfortunate," second-year Temple Head Football Al Golden said. "Joe was off to a great start here in camp. We look forward to his return for the 2008 season."
As a senior at South Broward, Jones rushed for 989 yards and 23 touchdowns while making 15 receptions for 455 yards and two scores. A SuperPrep All-Dixie Region selection, he was ranked as the 38th best prospect in the state of Florida by the publication. A Scout.com three-star prospect, Jones earned First Team all-Broward County honors from both the Miami Herald and the Florida Sun-Sentinel.
