Temple Women's Soccer Suffers First Loss Of The Season, 3-0, To Marist

Ambler, Pa.- All good things must come to an end. Today was the end of a magical run by the Temple women's soccer team, off to its best start since the 1992 season. The Owls got down early and weren't able to rebound, falling 3-0 to Marist on Friday afternoon at Ambler Field. TU falls to 3-1-1, while Marist improves to 2-1-1.

Temple struggled on both the offensive and defensive ends from the first whistle, the result of which was two quick goals by the Red Foxes. An own goal made it 1-0 Marist five minutes into the contest and, just a minute and a half later, the Red Foxes struck again, this time by their own foot. Maria Baez took a corner kick from the right-hand side of the field, crossing the ball into the box where Laura Zasly headed it past rookie goalie Kara Williams. Zasly found the back of the net again six minutes later, this time on a cross from Teresa Ferraro.

The Owls were forced to play keep-up the remainder of the game, though they did have their chances. Natalie Mell and Stephanie Ferretti fought hard in the midfield but the Cherry and White were unable to make anything happen and fell, 3-0.

Temple outshot Marist 11-9 and earned seven corner kicks to the Red Foxes' three.

Williams and Tiffany Kasunich split time in goal, with Williams stopping two shots and Kasunich stopping one.

The Owls travel to Philly rival Villanova on Sunday at 1 p.m.
