PHILADELPHIA- After leading Everglades High School to a Florida state championship, Heidi Freitager will join head coach Casey Dickson as an assistant coach for the Temple University softball team.

"With Heidi's experience as a head coach and an assistant coach our whole program will reap the benefits," stated head coach Casey Dickson. "She has a keen eye for talent, a professional approach to her job, and knows what it takes to win."

While at Everglades, Freitager was named the Sun Sentinel (2006, 2007) and Miami Herald (2007) Coach of the Year. She also led her team to two district championships (2006, 2007).

Freitager has also coached at the collegiate level, serving as an assistant at Nova Southeastern during the 2004-05 season. Prior to Nova Southeastern, she was the first assistant softball coach at Morehead State University. During her stay at Morehead, Freitager coached all areas, but had an emphasis on catching and pitching. She implemented the strength and conditioning program for the team as well as assisted in recruiting, travel planning and was the event manager for the football team, men's and women's basketball teams. The year previous to her season at Morehead she served as the second assistant softball coach at New Mexico State University.

Freitager has also worked at Florida International University, University of Minnesota, Irondale High School, and University of Northern Iowa softball camps and was the co-head coach for the Minnesota Pacers 18U softball team.

"I am very excited to join the Temple softball program under Coach Dickson," said Freitager. "She's built a solid core of athletes and has added newcomers that are going to be exciting to develop and watch over the season. It's not often you get to walk into a staff full of high caliber, successful coaches such as this one. It should make for a strong future for Temple softball."

Freitager was also a talented player for the University of Northern Iowa. A four-year starting catcher, she led her team to a conference championship (2000) and back-to-back Missouri Valley Conference Tournaments (1998, 1999). Freitager was also a star in the classroom, obtaining the Perfect Panther Award for a 4.0 GPA in semester. She was also a member of the dean's list in 1999, 2000 and 2001.
