THIS WEEK
Temple, under the direction of second-year head coach Al Golden, takes to the road again this week with its second stop of a three-game road swing at Bowling Green. Kickoff is set for Noon on Saturday, Sept. 22 at Perry Stadium in Bowling Green, Ohio. The game will be televised regionally by ESPN (shown on myphl17 in Philadelphia and on WLYH in the Lancaster/Harrisburg/Lebanon area) with Michael Reghi handling play-by-play and Doug Chapman on color commentary.
The Owls' radio broadcast will air on WPHT 1210 AM with Harry Donahue calling the play-by-play and Steve Joachim providing color analysis. Live gametracker stats and audio streaming will be available on the Temple Athletics website at www.owlsports.com.
Temple utilizes a multiple offense and a 4-3 defense, while Bowling Green uses a spread offense and a 4-3 defense. The Falcons, under the guidance of fifth-year head coach Gregg Brandon, stand 1-1 overall after an overtime win at Minnesota (32-31) and a loss at Michigan State (28-17). The contest with Temple is BGSU's Mid-American Conference opener. Bowling Green averages 353.50 yards of passing offense, which ranks ninth nationally and first in the MAC. The Falcons average just 147 yards rushing per game while allowing opponents 388 yards on the ground. Bowling Green is a perfect 4-for-4 on scoring opportunities in the red zone.
Like Temple, Bowling Green sports a youthful roster. Forty of the 66 players listed on the Falcons' depth chart are either first or second year players. Temple has played 21 freshmen, including 19 true freshmen, and 22 sophomores in its first three games. Sixty-three percent of the Temple team is comprised of these youngsters (43 of the 69 Owl players who've seen action already).
In series action, Bowling Green leads Temple, 6-4. However, in the teams' meeting last October, the Owls claimed their first win (28-14) under Golden. Temple has never won in Bowling Green.
Bowling Green's roster has six players from Pennsylvania, but none from the Philadelphia area. On the other hand, Temple has no Ohio players on its roster.
TEMPLE-BOWLING GREEN: THE SERIES
Saturday's game will mark the 10th meeting between the Owls and the Falcons. While BGSU holds a 6-3 edge, Temple claimed the win the last time the teams met. On Oct. 28, 2006, the Owls captured their only win on the season with a 28-14 win at Lincoln Financial Field. TB Travis Shelton caught a 43-yard scoring pass to put the Owls on the scoreboard in the opening quarter before returning a kickoff 96 yards to close out the scoring in the final stanza.
