Steiner and Clermont Represent Women's Tennis At Cissie Leary Invitational

PHILADELPHIA - Freshman Elyse Steiner won two advanced to the round of 16 at the Cissie Leary Invitational and sophomore Christine Clermont won three consolation matches in the tournament held this past weekend on the University of Pennsylvania campus.

Steiner bested Stevi Petrelli of Yale, 6-2, 3-6, 10-7, and Elizaveta Avdeeva of Kansas, 4-6, 6-1, 10-8, before falling to Penn's Maria Anisimova, 6-4, 7-5. Clermont lost her opening singles match to Cornell's Susan Sullivan, 0-6, 6-3, 10-7. She then defeated Ana Delgado of St.Bonaventure, 6-1, 6-0, Kaitlyn Carpenter of UMass, 6-4, 6-0 and Lauren Shearer of Columbia, 6-4, 6-0, before losing to eventual consolation chap Sarah Lederhandler of Yale, 6-4, 2-6, 11-9, in the semifinals.

Clermont and Steiner won their initial doubles match, 8-5, over Lederhandler and Rhee of Yale. They dropped a 8-3 decision to Sullivan and Elizabeth Googe of Cornell.
