Women's Basketball Hopes To Keep Winning Streak Alive At Richmond

Richmond, Va.- The Temple women's basketball team (9-10, 2-1) will look for its third straight Atlantic 10 win when it travels to meet the Richmond Spiders (9-9, 2-1) on Wednesday night. Tip off is set for 7 p.m.
Series Record
This is the 10th meeting between the Temple Owls and the Richmond Spiders, with Temple leading the series, 6-3. The Owls won the last meeting, 64-52, on February 9, 2007.
Temple captured its second upset of the season with a 68-66 victory over No. 13 George Washington on Saturday. Leading the game for the first 58 minutes, Temple won the game on a Shanea Cotton jumper in the paint with 22 seconds to go. The Colonials had several chances to score in the final seconds, missing two shots and turning the ball over on an in-bounds plays. The steal, by LaKeisha Eaddy with two seconds to play, sealed the Owl win. Lindsay Kimmel led TU with a career-high 15 points from a career-high five three pointers. Lady Comfort and Ashley Morris followed with 14 points each. Morris also dished out a career-high nine assists, one shy of a double-double performance. The Owls' win snapped GW's nine-game winning streak and 18-game A-10 winning streak.
Morris leads Temple in scoring and assists, averaging 14.1 ppg and dishing 72 assists. Comfort is averaging 8.8 ppg and a team-high 7.9 rpg. Eaddy has a team-high 28 steals.
Richmond had four players earn double-figures for the first time this season as they took down UMass 86-63. Danielle Bell led the way for Richmond with 24 points, sinking a career-high six three-pointers. Christina Campion, Brittani Shells and Johanna McKnight also scored big for Richmond as they handed the Minutewomen their first home loss of the season. Bell made six of her seven attempted three-pointers, hit seven for nine from the floor and sunk all four of her free throws to score a career-high 24 points to lead the Spiders. Christina Campion earned a double-double scoring 13 and pulling down a season-high 11 rebounds. Brittani Shells and Johanna McKnight also contributed, scoring 17 and 14 points, respectively.
Shells leads two Spiders in double figures, averaging 14.5 ppg, while McKnight is second with 13.2 ppg. Katie Holzer is tops in rebounding, pulling down 6.7 boards per game, while Kara Powell is Richmond's leading assist disher with 65.
Streak Breakers
With Saturday's win over GW, the Owls snapped the Colonials' nine-game winning streak and 18-game Atlantic 10 winning streak. Temple is owner of the longest A-10 streak, winning 24 straight games from 2004-06 before the Colonials defeated TU on Jan. 11, 2006. The Owls are still the only team in A-10 history to have gone a perfect 16-0 in Conference play and then go on to win the A-10 Championship.
T For Two
Jan. 19's 68-66 upset of #13 George Washington marks the second time this season that the Owls have defeated a ranked opponent. Temple defeated #20/22 Purdue (11/24), 61-47, giving the program its 10th win all-time over a Top 25 opponent. Temple is 11-79 all-time against ranked opponents and 1-38 against teams ranked in the Top 10.
