PHILADELPHIA - Temple Football is hoping to raise money and awareness in the fight against breast cancer during tomorrow's home game, and the team has made the first donation.
The Owl players donated $1,300 by voting to donate their weekly per diem. The coaches and staff, along with Al and Kelly Golden, then donated to the cause, raising $3,000 total to donate to the Philadelphia Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure.
Tuesday's nationally televised game against Ohio has been declared a "Pink Out", asking fans to wear pink to the game at Lincoln Financial Field. The game will be televised live from Philadelphia at 8 p.m. on ESPN2.
As part of the innovative "Owls for the Cure" initiative, spearheaded by the Goldens, a minimum of 10% of all single-game ticket sales will benefit the Philadelphia affiliate. Komen representatives and Temple student-athletes will be at the stadium gates collecting donations from fans.
The first 20,000 fans will receive thundersticks, sponsored by Keller Williams Realty Group. Temple students will receive pink pompoms and a pink t-shirt upon entry to the stadium. Pre-game entertainment in the Head House Plaza will include face painters, inflatable games, and area radio stations. The Roberts Event Group has brought in the band Zygomatic to perform during the pre-game festivities.
Additionally, in support of the Phillies' advancement to the 2008 World Series, any fan who wears Phillies' AND pink apparel can purchase a ticket to Temple's football game for just $10 at the Lincoln Financial Field box office. The special ticket price is only available at the stadium, and fans must wear their Phillies' and pink gear to the box office to receive the discount.
