PHILADELPHIA- The Temple women’s soccer team attempted a furious second-half comeback, highlighted by a 83rd minute goal by Wendy Halina, but could not push past Duquesne, falling 2-1 on Sunday afternoon. Temple drops to 2-11-4, 0-6-3 in the A-10, while Duquesne improves to 7-5-4 and 5-3-2 in the Conference.
The Owls got off to a slow start, posting just one shot in the first half. Mackenzie Creehan put her team ahead 1-0 when she scored an unassisted goal at 20:34, a score that would hold going into the break.
Temple really stepped up its offensive power in the second stanza, firing 10 shots toward Brittany Findley, but could not seem to find the back of the net. Creehan made it 2-0 at 79:51 but Halina spoiled all hopes of a shutout with her tally just minutes later. After a foul in the box, the Owls were awarded a penalty kick, a kick that Halina was able to convert into a goal at 82:26. Though Temple continued to shoot, it was too little too late and Duquesne took the game, 2-1.
Courtney Douglas stopped four shots in 90 minutes of action. Findley had two saves on the day.
Temple returns home to host Richmond on October 31 at noon.
