Women's Tennis Starts Off Strong At Dartmouth

HANOVER, NH - The Temple women's tennis team is off to a strong start at the Dartmouth Big Green Invitational through two rounds in Hanover, NH. Play resumes on Sunday in the final tournament of the fall for the Owls.

"The girls have played extremely well," head coach Steve Mauro said. "It's shaping up to be our best tournament of the fall."

On Friday, junior Elyse Steiner dropped a tight 7-5, 7-6 match to Akron's Harutyunyan in the top flight. Senior Dina Senkina was a 6-3, 6-3 victor over Akron's Baronayte in the second flight, while sophomore Lucie Pazderova dropped a 6-7, 6-3, 10-8 decision to Akron's Gombera in the third flight.

Junior Anastasiia Rukavyshnykova won 7-5, 6-2 over Akron's Benjamin at the fourth flight. Junior Christine Clermont did not have any trouble in a 6-0, 6-0 victory over Akron's Carlson in the fifth flight. Senior Felicia Frazier won 6-0, 6-2 over Syracuse's Haycock in the sixth flight.

In the seventh flight, sophomore Theresa Stangl won 6-4, 6-1 over Syracuse's Hanes while classmate Josephine Bergman won 6-4, 6-4 over Massachusetts' Jannotta.

In doubles, Senkina-Steiner lost 9-8 to Akron's Harutyunyan-Baronayte, while Clermont-Rukavyshnykova won 8-5 over Akron's Benjamin-Berry. Pazderova-Stangl also won 8-4 over Akron's Carlson-Gombera.

The next round of singles action pitted Frazier against Boston University's Abraham, who came out on top, 3-6, 6-1, 10-7. Bergman won her match, 6-4, 6-0 over Boston University's Khosla.

Steiner-Senkina opened the next round of doubles with a 9-7 win over Syracuse's Tan-Harman, while Clermont-Rukavyshnykova lost to Syracuse's Kalhorn-Jones, 8-6. Pazderova-Stangl won 8-4 over Syracuse's Tang-Ford, while Bergman-Frazier won 8-2 over Syracuse's Haynes-Haycock.

On Saturday, Temple took on Dartmouth in both singles and doubles. Steiner dropped first singles match to Molly Scott, 6-3, 6-2. Senkina won, 6-4, 6-4 over Ryan Reichel at #2, while Pazderova lost to Shelley Carpeni, 6-3, 1-6, 10-7.

Rykavyshnykova won 6-2, 6-2 at #4 over Ashley Mitchell, while Clermont won 6-1, 6-2 over Carissa King at #5.

In doubles, Scott-Capeni beat Senkina-Steiner, 8-4. King-Smyser beat Clermont-Rukavyshnykova, 9-7, while Pazderova-Stangl won 8-3 over Reichel-Mitchell.
