CLEVELAND - For the second consecutive season, Temple junior Jake Brownell (Thorofare, N.J.) has been named to the 2008 Academic All-Mid-American Conference Football Team, the MAC announced on Thursday. The 31-member team of honorees was selected by the schools' Faculty Athletics Representatives.

The Temple placekicker, who carries a 3.52 grade-point average in biology, played in 11 games for the Owls this fall, handling field goals and extra points. Brownell booted a career-long 45-yard field goal against Western Michigan. In the win over Eastern Michigan, he went a perfect 7-of-7 for a career-high seven PATs and made two field goals. Brownell finished the season with 52 points, converting 28-of-31 PATs and eight field goals.

A member of the President's Academic Honor Roll and University Honors Program, Brownell earned a scholarship with the Cherry & White after initially joining the program as a walk-on. He is a 2007 Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area honoree and a 2008 CoSIDA Academic All-America nominee. In 2006, he was named a Sporting News Honorable Mention Freshman All-American.

Brownell is very active in the community, donating his time to the Bone Marrow Donor drive, Diamond St. Clean-up, Partnership Field Day, Race for the Cure, and Donovan McNabb All-Star Football Camp.

During its second season of MAC play this fall, the Owls tied for second place in the East Division with a 4-4 record while finishing with a 5-7 overall record, the team's most wins since 1990.
