TORONTO - Former Temple football player Raymond Lamb III has signed as a free agent to play with the Toronto Argonauts of the Canadian Football League, the team announced on Friday.
The 5-10, 185-lb defensive back enters his first season in the CFL.
A standout in the Temple secondary, Lamb spent three seasons (2003-05) playing for the Owls after transferring from New Mexico Military Institute. During his time with the Owls, he recorded 128 defensive tackles, including74 solo takedowns, and 10 pass knockdowns in 29 games.
Lamb served as the president of the Temple University Chapter of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes and was a leadership counselor and volunteer at Our Lady Hope Church. He was also a member of the Temple Teammates, a community service program conducted by the Department of Athletics to raise awareness in young people on aspects of leadership, positive character development, and high ethical standards.
A finalist for the 2005 FWAA Courage Award, Lamb completed a miraculous comeback in 2004 when he joined the starting lineup versus Florida A&M on Sept. 18. He had suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee just five months earlier during the Cherry & White spring game on April 24, 2004. Initially, doctors' prognosis placed Lamb's return for summer 2005 after Lamb underwent surgery on May 20. His hard work and dedication gradually moved up his return date, and he started six games, making 22 tackles (14 solo), one PBU and both a forced fumble and recovery. After the 2004 season, Lamb had arthroscopic surgery on the knee.
As a senior, Lamb started in all 11 games at right cornerback and made 57 tackles (28 solo), 2.5 TFLs, two interceptions, a forced fumble and seven pass break-ups.
A member of the 2003 Big East Conference All-Academic Team, Lamb majored in biology and earned multiple citations on the Athletic Director's Academic Honor Roll. He was recipient of the team's 2004 Dr. Arthur N. Cook Most Courageous Athlete Award.
Lamb, whose father is a colonel and brigade commander in the U.S. Army, arrived in Owl Country in spring 2003 from New Mexico Military Institute. He was born in Frankfurt, Germany, and graduated from Seoul (South Korea) High School in 2001.
