PHILADELPHIA-The Temple women's lacrosse team has adopted a new teammate. In association with the Friends of Jaclyn Foundation, five year old Devon Lam has been adopted by the team as an honorary teammate.
Devon was diagnosed with an Anaplastic Ependymoma brain tumor on October 12, 2004 when she was just 19 months old. Devon's adoption comes as another installment in the Atlantic 10 women's lacrosse movement to become more involved with the Friends of Jaclyn Foundation. Duquesne, St. Bonaventure, La Salle and St. Joseph's are the other schools that have adopted an honorary teammate through the foundation. Richmond and George Washington are also expected to have honorary teammates in the near future as well.
Devon's tumor is currently stable after an extensive treatment process. Treatment consisted of six months of chemotherapy followed by a stem cell transplant/rescue. Devon was also treated with six weeks of conformal therapy and IMRT radiation.
Devon and her family visited the lacrosse team last weekend and spent the afternoon on the Temple University campus. They are also planning on attending the Owls' season opener against Penn State on Sunday.
The Owls plan to dedicate a game this season to Devon and brain tumor awareness. Please check www.owlsports.com for more details in the upcoming weeks.
