COLLEGE STATION, TX - The Temple softball team put up a valiant effort, but the Cherry and White ultimately fell to #4 Texas A&M 7-0 in the second game of the Texas A&M Invitational.
The first three hitters in the line-up led the offense for the second consecutive game, as sophomore Krystle Metzler, freshmen Samantha Dungan and senior Natalie Wagner all hit safely for the Cherry and White.
Senior Brianna Dairy (2-1) took the loss in her second start of the day, allowing three earned runs on five hits in two innings of work. Junior Katie Burdeaux pitched very well in relief, allowing just two runs on hits in four and tow thirds innings
The Owls (3-4) dug themselves an early hole against the powerful Aggies that was just too much to overcome. Already down 1-0 in the top of the third, the Aggies used some timely hitting to break the game open. With the based loaded and one out, Texas A&M's Jamie Hinshaw cleared the bases with a double to left center to give the Aggies a 4-0 lead. The Aggies would tack on another run to make it 5-0 after three innings.
But the Owls never backed down, shutting out the Aggies for the next three innings before allowing two late runs in the seventh inning.
Megan Gibson, the reigning Big 12 Player of the Week, was the winner on the mound for the Aggies, striking out eight.
The Cherry and White are back in action tomorrow morning at 11:00 a.m. against Sam Houston State. The game can be followed live on Gametracker.
