PHILADELPHIA- Senior center Lady Comfort was selected Philadelphia Big Five Player of the Week for her role in Temple's historic city series run. Comfort averaged 18 ppg and 8 rpg in leading the Owls over Saint Joseph's and LaSalle and helping the team to capture its fourth straight Big Five crown.
The senior shot an impressive 58.8% from the field but it was her 16-of-18 free throw shooting performance that really made the difference. In the win against Saint Joe's, Comfort had a season and game-high 24 points, thanks to making 12-of-13 free throws. Her two free throws with six tenths of a second remaining clinched the win for Temple. She added a game-high seven boards. Against LaSalle, she netted 12 points on 5-of-8 shooting and nearly missed a double-double with nine boards.
Temple has won a record-setting 18 consecutive Big Five games and, with its fourth straight 4-0 season, becomes the first team in Big Five history to win four straight outright titles. The Owls are riding a six game winning streak and have posted a 13-10 record thus far this season.
