PHILADELPHIA- Sophomore Chelsea Rosiek netted four goals and assisted on two others but it was not enough as the Temple women's lacrosse team (3-3) dropped a hard fought game, 9-8, to the visiting Delaware Blue Hens (4-2) on Tuesday afternoon. The Owls dominated first half play to take a 5-3 halftime lead but the Blue Hens, led by former Owl great Kim Ciarocca, responded with a big second stanza to earn the win.

Leading scorer Whitney Richards had two goals and two assists for Temple, while Berkley Summerlin and Brittney Hoffman chipped in with one goal a piece. Hillary Richards dished one assist on the day.

Temple was patient in the first half, controlling play for long stretches thanks to fluid passing and intelligent shot placement. Whitney Richards started off the scoring for the Owls just a minute and a half into the game, but Nicole Flego responded with a two goal run to give Delaware a 2-1 lead, a lead that the visitors would not reclaim until late in the second half. Rosiek netted her first goal of the game with 18:14 remaining to spark a four goal TU run and give the Owls a 5-2 lead with four minutes to play. Just when it seemed that the 5-2 score would hold going into the break, Alexis Curcio found Julianna Jeffers with less than a second on the clock to make it 5-3 at halftime.

The Blue Hens were a lot more aggressive in the second half, and Katie Muth wasted no time getting her team within one goal (5-4). The teams traded goals for the next ten minutes, with Temple holding a two goal edge. After a goal was called back for too deep of a pocket, Delaware rattled off three goals in three minutes to take an 8-7 lead with 13:49 left to play. Whitney Richards and Rosiek teamed for the game-tying goal at 4:19 but UD wasn't finished yet as Courtney Aburn found the back of the net with 2:45 remaining. The Owls desperately tried for the equalizer but two shots went off of the post and the Blue Hens escaped with the 9-8 victory.

Bridget McMullan had three saves in goal for Temple, while Delaware's Jessica Cerveny posted five saves.

Temple opens up Atlantic 10 play on Thursday when it hosts Saint Joseph's at 3 p.m.
