WEST POINT, N.Y. - The women's tennis team overcame a tough challenge on Saturday evening to win their seventh straight match. Despite dropping the first set in each of the top three singles matches, the Owls fought back and won each of those matches to win 5-2. The loss drops Buffalo's record to 3-2 while it brings the Owls to 7-2.
Freshman Lucie Pazderova had a huge win at No. 3 singles. Her opponent, Diana Popescu, was previously unbeaten with a record of 13-0. After losing the first set 5-7, Pazderova reversed the scoreline to 7-5 in the second and third sets to provide an essential victory for the Owls. Sophomore Elyse Steiner, coming off a tough loss against Army, recovered with a match-clenching win against Buffalo's No. 1 singles player, Andrea Novaceanu.
Coach Jill Breslin was ecstatic with her team's effort. "The team showed an incredible amount of heart and fight," said Breslin. "Numbers 1, 2, and 3 singles were all a set down and battled back against a really good team. I am very proud of their tenacity."
Temple gets a much-deserved break from action until March 11 when they will travel south to face Florida Gulf Coast University. Following that match they will go from Fort Myers to Boca Raton where they will face Florida Atlantic on the 12th and Boston University on the 13th.
