PHILADELPHIA- Senior Berkley Summerlin notched three goals and assisted on two others to help give Temple (5-3, 2-0 A-10) its second straight Atlantic 10 win, a 10-8 victory over St. Bonaventure (1-6, 0-1 A-10) on Friday afternoon. Summerlin tallied four first-half points to aid in the Owls' 7-3 halftime lead and assisted on a late goal to hold off the upset-minded Bonnies. Whitney Richards scored two goals and dished three assists, while Brittney Hoffman tallied two goals. Nicole Caniglia had a goal and an assist and Chelsea Rosiek and Andrea DeSabato chipped in with a goal a piece. Richards added eight groundballs and four groundballs to her five point performance. Summerlin started things off for the Owls after catching a pass from Richards just two and a half minutes into the game. Kimberly Ross battled back with two straight goals to spark a 3-0 SBU run and give the visitors a 3-1 lead with just under 19 minutes remaining. After a Temple timeout, the Owls came out with a new game plan and rattled off six straight goals to take a 7-3 lead at the break. The Bonnies wasted no time mounting their comeback, as they scored two straight goals to make it a two-goal game (7-5) just four and a half minutes into the second stanza. Richards stepped up and made it a four goal game yet again, netting an unassisted tally at 24:24 and finding Caniglia less than a minute later. St. Bonaventure wasn't quiet for long, however, as Christine Hanley engineered a three goal SBU run that cut Temple's lead to just one (9-8) with 5:55 left to play. The Cherry and White began to pass the ball around the field, attempting to stall and escape with the narrow victory. The Bonnies desperately tried to regain control and were able to pick off a pass with just over two minutes to play. Their attempt was futile, however, as Temple regained possession and began to work the ball around the St. Bonaventure cage. Summerlin found a wide-open DeSabato for the insurance goal with just three seconds remaining. Bridget McMullan started in goal for Temple and had three saves. Jessica Colucci took over in the second half and notched five saves. Bonnies goalkeeper Eboni Preston stopped seven Temple shots. Temple continues its home stand on March 30 when it hosts Duquesne at 1 p.m.
